Flat Rate Shipping: Con or Good Value?

posted on 17 May 2012 in Business and Finance

Whether you sell branded usb flash drives, furniture or laptops online - whatever it is you sell, you'll rely on the postal service. I see now that the USPS is offering Flat Rate Shipping services wherein an individual can send a package up to a certain weight to anywhere in the country for $4.95. My question, is, are the vast majority of packages sent under this system overpaid for by businesses? In other words, could they send the same package for maybe $3.00 if they actually went through the process of weighing and shipping instead of using a OneRate pouch. Or, on the other hand, is this an attempt by the Postal Service to gain business in the wake of an economic downturn? Ultimately, if businesses are able to save money (or time, which ultimately equals money) this service will last for as long as the USPS wants it to, but, if on the other hand, businesses can do it for cheaper, as previously discussed, they will. CEO's and their understudies tend not to be stupid.

Factors to consider when you are purchasing a computer

posted on 16 May 2012 in Computers

Every aspect of life today is governed by the use of computers from the government offices to the home. Children too are not left behind in their quest for computer literacy as more and more children are being bought for computers to use at home even if it is for playing games. It is therefore important to know exactly the kind of computer you want to buy and for what purpose you are buying it. There are things to always keep into consideration when buying computers. One is the memory capacity of the computer. The more things you were want to do with it the higher the memory capacity you go for. Second is the issue of compatibility. Choose a computer that has an operating system that is compatible with word help 2007 which is a function found in Microsoft word. In essence choose a computer that Microsoft word 2007 compatible. Third is the speed performance of the computer. This is important especially if you have a lot of work that you will be doing at the same time.

My Favourites: Engadget and Gizmodo Technology Blogs

posted on 15 May 2012 in Internet Related

Being in the IT industry - working for a digital marketing agency in Nottingham - I read a lot of tech blogs, and in the world of technology blogs there are few as well-known or large as Engadget or Gizmodo. Engadget is a great blog that covers the fast changing world of technology. It is sometimes categorized as an "Apple Love" website for the way it gloats about Apple products, sometimes to the level that they do not look like they are not impartial. Gizmodo on the other hand is website credited with leaking the iPhone 4 design after one of the editors got hold of a lost prototype. Both Blogs have a rivalry against each other in breaking news stories but they also highlight each others scoops. Gizmodo is part of the Gawker media empire. There are other technology websites/blogs out there but the author does not think they are as dynamic as the two aforementioned blogs. Some other blogs are too technical or too imformal in presenting the information to their readers.

Antique French Crosses as Wonderful Design Features

posted on 14 May 2012 in Home and Garden

When driving through France it is almost impossible not to be impressed with the wonderfully designed French religious items and crosses scattered throughout the countryside and villages.

These now rare and beautiful items are slowly diminishing as the years go by. These cast iron crosses were once a regular feature on any trip through France, and were beautiful items in their own right. They displayed the skill and craftsmanship of the foundry men from previous generations and were often the centre piece of the village green or just placed along lanes and byways throughout rural France. Today, many are orange with rust and some are so delicately crafted that it is remarkable that they remain undamaged today, especially considering that many are over 150 years old.
French antique religious cast iron crosses are truly incredible features, and are often desired today not just for their historic interest but also as interesting and unique items that people can still appreciate today.

On Gifts Much Loved

posted on 12 May 2012 in Fashion

Buying gifts for my family and friends is something I am able to take pride in year after year. I buy for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas and any other holiday which might require a gift. Sometimes I make jewellery gifts myself - buying in materials from Big Bead Store to help in my creations. Depending on what the occasion is, or the personality of the person will dictate what I get them, and possibly where I get it from. One thing I never do is gift cards, because to me gift cards are not very thoughtful because it doesn’t take any thought or effort on the part of the gift giver. When I am able to shop for a gift and give someone an actual gift, it makes me feel really good that I was able to bless somebody. I know that the phrase “It is better to give than receive” holds true. There is so much joy in giving somebody a gift and seeing their face light up, especially children.

Get fast and convenient electricians by ordering and paying online

posted on 12 May 2012 in Home and Garden

Availability of internet has saved a lot of businesses because of the fact that they are fast and convenient. Thus, for firms that deal with the hiring of electricians to serve for a company, they are now better placed because they can own a website online and use it to sell their electricians and get clients out of the adverts that they make online. The availability of the internet has also hastened emergency services because communication is easy when done online since they are fast and convenient. It is even better that you can make your order and payment online and immediately get the kind of electricians that you ordered for. For reading electricians, they are not only available online but can also be reached on phone. Considering that mobile phones are the most preferred way of communication by many people, it is good that you can now call reading customer care service of any company and get the kind of electricians that you are looking for without any hassle in transportation services because they have a vehicle that takes them up to the destination where they are needed.

Why I Try to Limit My Time on the Roads

posted on 12 May 2012 in Cars and Transport

I like driving a car, but not a two wheeler. With my van (complete with van roofracks), I'm often forced onto the road due to my work. Driving in Chennai has not become a nightmare as in other big cities. But, with the ever-increasing number of cars on the roads, which are not broad enough to take even half of them, driving becomes a bit difficult.

There are a number of reasons why a person may hate deriving in the city. Bad roads and the ever-increasing fuel costs spring to mind. Then there's all the obstacles to navigate around: there are the two wheelers, and the three wheeler auto-rickshaws and the public service city buses called monsters. Add to them the mobile phone addict walkers. Two wheelers include the bicycles, motor cycles, scooters, and mopeds. Drivers of these vehicles without exception will overtake only on the wrong side, then dart across you and will stop on the zebra crossing at junctions. Three wheelers do the same thing but in addition will abuse you for not giving him the right of way. Then the bus drivers will over speed, will not allow vehicles to pass them and to crown it all, stop in the middle of the road, far ahead or far short of bus stops for passengers to alight while the passengers waiting at the stop will have to run to catch the bus. The walking mobile phone addicts endanger everyone's life too!

So as you can see, driving certainly has its hazards.

The Intelligent and Sensitive Dream Home

posted on 11 May 2012 in Home and Garden

I'll confess, I don't know much about DIY - the nearest I get to DIY is buying new door furniture for my doors. But what I can do well is dream. My dream house is one that understands me - one that caters to my every whim. It must have a reliable, strong pair of legs and a good idea of what constitutes 'the perfect view'. It must intuit my every mood so for example on a typical Friday afternoon in summer after a stressful working week - I would instruct my home to find a delightful West facing sea view to take in the sunset. As the house sets off I would freshen up and retire to the living room with a glass of wine and await developments. I may want to have relatives 'round for lunch. I can imagine no better means of achieving this than by the use of an intelligent and sensitive walking home that would transport me to them while I spend my time getting dressed and preparing the meal. They need only step out of their door and my home is there waiting and welcoming. Such a home would be beyond price.

On Playing Table Tennis And Air Hockey When I Was Little

posted on 11 May 2012 in Toys and Games

I distinctly remember playing ping pong and air hockey when I was a little girl. I was more of a mobile, physical person when it came to playing - no traditional toysand board games for me - the complete opposite to today's kids who seem to be enthralled with remote control buggies and whatnot. My parents had a ping pong table set up in our basement. The air hockey table was adjacent to it. It was so awesome! We would invite all our friends over to play. I remember lying on top of the air hockey table during the long summer months. The cool air would blow out the tiny hole vents and cool off my skin. I use to try to "swallow" the air as well. I was really good at playing air hockey. No one ever wanted to play with me, which was sad. I was okay at ping pong, but I really liked to play. My dad taught me some moves like how to spin the ball. I miss those days, and I wish my parents never sold both tables.

Saving Money: It's All About Priorities

posted on 10 May 2012 in Business and Finance

First of all, I would like to say that I'm not rich. In fact, I've faced bankruptcy in my past. That doesn't mean I don't live a good and confortable life. Well, it sounds a bit stupid, but one thing I allways did was to note every single thing I buy. And when I say every single thing, I mean it. From a computer to a chewing gum, write down a list of what you spend, and where you spend it. That makes a lot easier for you to see where you're spending your money in a wrong way, and then, to realize that there are things that are really unnecessary. Another thing I do, or don't do actually, it's cutting back on Vaccation. I don't go on holiday for about 4 years, and I can tell you that I don't miss it at all. Instead, I grab 5% of what I would spend going to the beach, and I go with my family to my parents house, in the country side, and do picnics etc. Also look at investments. From doing an annuity rates comparison amongst many financial products out there to calculating your pension, you need to make your money work for you too. So, in conclusion, you've got to organize your expenses, and know your priorities.

Hot Tub, Snowcats and the Heavens Above

posted on 8 May 2012 in Home and Garden

It is not a secret I have a mountain fetish, but not everyone knows of my favorite winter time activity. When we vacation in early winter in Breckenridge Colorado, we look forward to our evening and make a bee-line to the hot tub direct. Ski season is not in full swing, so the crowd is minimal, rarely do we need to share. There is nothing quite as relaxing as sitting in a steaming pool of water, with the snow falling all around, while you watch the headlights of the snow cats grooming the trails. With a bottle of wine and couple of glasses in hand, my husband and I leave our coats, warm clothing and shoes in the pool house. We scamper with towels in hand outside where we stash the towels close by, yet make some sort of a quick attempt to shelter them from as much snow as possible. We stay as long as we can without our legs becoming complete rubber. Reluctantly, we quickly grab our towels, shake off the snow, and run back to the pool house. We are not even dried off and dressed before we are looking forward to the next evening of star gazing, and snowcat watching in the hot tubs at 9600’.

How to Come Up With the Perfect Gift

posted on 3 May 2012 in Uncategorised

Having five children it is impossible to remember what we gave who, how much we spent etc. To remedy this problem we developed a spreadsheet where we maintain a list of tools, dishes, CD’s, swarovski photo frames etc. we have given each child. It allows us to look back to see the name of the dinner pattern we purchased last year, or even earlier so we can add completer pieces. We also use the spreadsheet to tally the amount of money spent so we keep the gift value even. Throughout the year my husband and I listen very close to what our adult children say, and what they are not saying to come up with the perfect Christmas gift. We use this spreadsheet to keep track of those Christmas gift ideas that come to us at Easter, family picnics, etc. For example, last year my son had a Halloween party. He invited the world via his Facebook page, but added a comment someone would need to bring a camera. My husband added a note to our spreadsheet to buy him a camera. Then when time to start shopping for holidays, we look at our notes on the spreadsheet to remind us of an idea that came to us earlier in the year. The kids are always amazed at how well we can read their minds and come up with perfect gifts without asking for a list.

Dentists, They Are Not So Bad!

posted on 2 May 2012 in Health and Beauty

I have never been the type of person who was scared of the dentist - whether it's dermal fillers I need or just a checkup. Maybe I'm weird, but I love the feeling of getting my teeth cleaned. In fact, I look forward to seeing my cosmetic dentist in Essex because the results are always so good.

Sure, visting the dentist for other reasons can be a little uncomfortable at first but in the end it is so worth it. Maybe I'm lucky because I never had any major work done, and that could be the very reason that the dentist never scared me. Probably the only part I hate about getting my check up is when they scape your teeth. I shutter just thinking about it! The flouride treatment is also pretty gross, but it doesn't last too long. I make sure I go my two times a year for checkups and I have no problem doing so. I'd rather put up with a few minutes of unpleasentness then have really gross or really unhealthy teeth. My good hygene means way too much to me to jeopordize it!

The Golden Memories of Hot Summer Days

posted on 28 April 2012 in Holiday and Travel

When the sun beams down and makes people radiate loveliness, you know that it's time to get out the picnic basket, call your friends and family and make your way to the beach or the park. Or having a beer in a beer garden under one of those pop up marquees. Summer days provide perfect memories of being with your loved ones which will last forever. Everyone strolls around with glowing smiles and delicious ice creams in their hands, children chase butterflies and adults relax in the shade. Spirits are high as the bright blue sky and people soak up the day with fun sports and activities such as hiking, frisbee throwing, paddling and building amazing sandcastles. When evening arrives, out come the refreshing drinks and the sense of never wanting the day to end. Everyone gathers in the hot dry air and watches the sunset beautifully over the horizon, finishing off the remains of their picnics and opening their chilled fruity bottles of wine to end a perfect day of fun in the sun.

Nowadays, I tend to spend most of the summer months down in the Dordogne, in my french farmhouse - it's so lovely down there.

Identify The Problem Before Searching For The Solution

posted on 28 April 2012 in Arts and Entertainment

Why do I keep so many email addresses I wondered because it is so difficult to remember all their passwords? So when the time came to open my facebook account I wanted to use an email account which I could remember very easily. I thought a while and then decided to make my yahoo account as my facebook email address since I used to check my yahoo account every day. But the next day I found that I had a problem logging into my account so I thought that I used a wrong email address. I entered my second email address from Gmail but it still refused to open. One by one I tried all the email address that I had but I could not succeed in logging in. I soon realized that it was not a problem of the email address but that the caps lock was on and that is why my password was not getting accepted. After one month now I find it easy to remember how to log in to my Facebook account.

What is Government Procurement All About?

posted on 19 April 2012 in Business and Finance

When my wife lost her tenure at the university because of the recession impact, I was tasked with the responsibility of keeping our finances together and trying to hold the fort when it comes to filling our basic needs as my wife tries to find another income generating job. It wasn’t until lately that we were able to finally have a balance of hour expenses even if my wife doesn’t have a job yet thanks to the wonderful blessing of government procurement. By using government appropriated goods and purchasing them at a discount price we are able to save some money we used to allocate for basic needs and put it away for savings and to use for other expenses in the household. I don’t feel the pressure to keep my family well fed as much because the savings that we get from going to the government procurement is really a blessing.

Not Everything in Online Markets is Genuine

posted on 19 April 2012 in Home and Garden

I made the greatest mistake when I withdrew a roofing contract I had with a company in the country because I saw a better service provider over the internet. I had already contracted the heritage roofing company, but when I saw that other company, I hurriedly contracted them without being sure first if they offered what they marketed online. I paid them all the money and handed them all the material they needed in order to do the job. A year later, I cannot believe the kind of services I got form that company. The roof is already falling apart and it started leaking a month after it was put up. This is a great disappointment for me because I had left a very well known company in the name of an online company. It is very dangerous these days to trust what you see in the internet, there are genuine companies out there but there are also accompanier which are there to extort money from people. Just be careful if you want to live comfortably with the services or the goods you have purchased.

Children Should Not Abuse Their Parent's Kindness

posted on 15 April 2012 in Uncategorised

I have a cousin who goes by the name Lara. I consider her a spoiled brat because her attitude is so rude especially toward her parents. Unbeknownst to her parents, she does not attend to her classes anymore, but she keeps on asking for allowance and other school related expenditures. On the contrary, she can be found hanging out with her peers in various disco pubs almost every night. Sometimes she comes home early in the morning while there are also times when she doesn&rsquot come home at all, mindless of how worried her mother is. This character of her is maybe the result when one&rsquos parents are too considerate. This would often lead to parental abuse by children, just like the case of my cousin Lara. I know that her parents already know some of her wrongdoings, but they do not mind confronting her. Whatever their reasons may be, they should not remain lax and too considerate if they want their daughter to change. I think Lara is just trying to get her parents attention that is she doing all those foolishness.

The Benefits of Using Clean Energy At Home

Clean energy is truly a great resource that all people should tap into. Why not? There is absolutely no reason why people should not use clean energy. First and foremost, this type of energy is CLEAN, which means it is healthy for homeowners and their families. It is also renewable, which is another great aspect of it. The best aspect, however, is the money saving a person will experience when they make the switch to clean energy. What to do when your browser slows down

posted on 9 April 2012 in Internet Related

Your browser does not work like superman, it needs time out to rest and recover its operations. When you notice that your browser is acting up you need to check the numbers of pages that you are using at the same time. Try and limit your page count to 5 so that you do not make too much of a demand on your browser. If you still reduce on your pages and you find that you cannot work click on the Disable Browser icon on your computer and wait for the browser to restart. When it does it will lose your pages which is why you need to limit your page count in the first place. After restarting your browser should work just fine and if it doesn't then you need to have your entire computer system checked out to ascertain if your need new browser software. If you do then do not hesitate to buy it even when you know that you will be spending a lot of money. Continuing to use your troublesome browser will put you at risk of losing more than your open pages when it decides to crash.
